Lynnette Dawn Brinton of North East died Sunday, July 15, 2018, in the Suburban Community Hospital, Norristown, Pa. She was 56.
A lifelong resident of Cecil County, she was born in Elkton, on January 20, 1962, the daughter of the late Richard Lee and Frances Lee (Osborne) Corron. Mrs. Brinton worked as the lead custodian for Cecil County Public Schools, spending time at Bainbridge, Cecil Manor, North East Middle School and Rising Sun High School. She was an active member of Mercy Missionary Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, Bible School and helping out wherever she could. In her spare time, she enjoyed landscaping, crafting, singing and tanning. Sally Theresa George of Elkton died Monday, July 16, 2018, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 81. Born in Sewickley, Pa. on September 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Newell) Cannister. Throughout her career, Mrs. George worked in management and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church, Elkton. She enjoyed sewing, watching Days of Our Lives, and candy. Sally had a green thumb, especially for growing beautiful African Violets and Orchids. Mary Patricia Murphy, “Pat”, 77 of North East, MD, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 in the Abbey Manor Assisted Living, Elkton, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, on January 1, 1941, she was the wife of the late Walter G. Murphy who passed in 1988. Pat worked for many years as a secretary for Jodlbauer’s Furniture, Elkton, MD. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, boating and cruises. She is survived by two daughters: Dana Hagy of Sparrows Point, MD and Kathryn Lay of Havre de Grace, MD; three grandchildren: Jennifer McClure of Perryville, MD, Christa Carter of Rising Sun, MD, Jack Carter of Rising Sun, MD; and three great grandchildren: Alexia Waters, Morgan McClure and Nicholas McClure all of Perryville, MD. Charles “Charley” Douglas Brooks, 39 of Elkton, MD, passed away after a lengthy cardiac illness Thursday, July 5, 2018, Elkton, MD.
Born in Merced, CA, on March 22, 1979, he was the son of Douglas James Brooks and Sharon Lynn (Broad) Kerns. He is survived by his wife: Theresa Brooks; daughter: Raven Scarlett Brooks of Elkton, MD; son: Jason James Brooks of Elkton, MD; grandmother, Anna Mae Hammer of Port Deposit, MD and grandparents; Thomas & Esther Mae Broad of Conneaut, OH. Norman Eugene Astle, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Christiana Hospital. He was under Hospice Care.
Norman was born June 19, 1926 in Kemblesville PA, to the late Arthur A. Astle and late Eleanor J. Grubb. His wife, the late Helen L. Astle, deceased in 2015. The two shared 64 wonderful years together. Norman was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee for many years and in other multiple capacities. He was a dairy and grain farmer most of his life. Norman also enjoyed serving with the Cecil County Farm Museum, was a member of the Cecil County Farm Bureau. He served as Institutional Representative for Hopewell Boy Scout Troop #143. Norman enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be loving missed by his six children, Eleanor DeLong (Kenneth), Alma DeLong (Gerald), Norman Astle, Jr. (Stephanie), H. Louise Batory (Robert), Richard Astle, Brenda Waddell (Randy); grandchildren, Jonathan DeLong (Jessica), Jeremy DeLong, Jared DeLong (Holly) and Kevin DeLong, Madison and Natalie Astle, Nathan, Nicholas and Brent Batory, Quinton and Lily Waddell, Alexis and Grant Astle; great grandchildren, Gideon and Emmalee DeLong; nieces, nephews, beloved friends and his beloved buddy Boots. Lula Handy, of Charlestown, MD, died on July 7, 2018. Mrs. Handy moved to Cecil County, MD, in 1952, with her husband and children. She was born in Hayes County, NC on January 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Mack Montgomery Handy and Ona (Gambill) Montgomery. Mrs. Handy enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She especially loved her garden, working in her roses and going to the casino. She is survived by her children: Margie Hughes, of Eltopia, WA, Helen Handy of Raleigh, NC, Brenda Sue Darnell (Ronnie) and Susie Handy Walker, both of Elkin, NC, Linda Shirley Handy of Laurel, DE, Marie Ward (Charles), Georgia Schneider and Michael Handy (Karen) of Elkton, MD. She had 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Betty Louise Holbrook, age 85 of Rising Sun, MD passed away on July 5, 2018. She was born on February 18, 1933 in Conestoga, PA to the late Dan Oscar Thomas and Grace Miriam (Miller) Thomas. Betty, AKA Aunt Betts or Miss Betty, was one of few who graduated from New Valley Elementary School in Conowingo, MD which was a one room school house. She then went to Rising Sun High School where she was an athlete and played on their softball team. Betty had a warm and generous heart and worked to serve others. She grew up with three siblings and would always care for them. Betty began working for the Connelly Family at age 15 and later worked for Henkles and McCoy as a secretary for over 35 years. Later on, she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for Special Education for Cecil County Public Schools. Betty was a member of the Conowingo Baptist Church where she served as treasurer and she later became a member of Janes United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time and helped with their multiple committees. She was a member of the Red Hatters as well as the Garden Club. Betty will be remembered for her baking; her family and friends always referred to her as “Betty the Baker”. She also loved to garden. She planted flowers and vegetables and focused on the landscaping around her home, which she found to be very therapeutic. In her spare time she enjoyed going shopping. Mable E. Moxley, 89 of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 in the Abbey Manor Assisted Living, Elkton, MD. Born in Woodlawn, VA, on December 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Lena (Hill) Landreth. She was the wife of the late Herbert Moxley who passed in 1991. Mrs. Moxley retired from Thiokol after 21 years of service as a secretary. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Elkton. Survivors include her daughter: Cheryl Ford; 4 stepchildren: Jerry Moxley, Mike Moxley, Linda Souza, Marcia Smithers; her granddaughter: Lauren Taylor (Brian); and grandson: Brett Ford; and 4 great grandchildren. William T. Mann, 39 of Newark, DE, best known to family as Bill and Brother passed away suddenly Friday, June 29, 2018. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, on July 26, 1978, he was the loving son of William H. and Perle Mann. Brother was a Business Process Consultant at the DuPont Company where he worked for 18 years. He got to travel the world, which always kept a smile on his face. Billy had his pilot’s license when he was 25 and enjoyed being in the air, and enjoying all the sights life had to offer him. He was a huge WWII buff, loving the history and visiting the events, including WWII computer games. His love of Stars Wars, a love he shared with his father, was very clear to see. He was very fond of his dog “Lola” and riding historic steam trains with his father. Early in his life, he was a proud member of NEVFD. Always looking to help others in any way he could from the very beginning. His dog, Lola, was one of his biggest joys in his life. In a family overcrowded by little girls including little sis, Katie, he became everyone’s big brother and protector. He loved trains, planes and cars. Charlie Oliver Dixon, 14 months, went home in the arms of the angels on Sunday, July 1, 2018. Born on May 1, 2017, he was the beloved son of Dustin C. and Kelli M. (Lambert) Dixon, Elkton, MD. In addition to his parents, Charlie was much loved by his sister: Lacey Isabella Dixon; maternal grandparents: Ronald and Patricia Lambert of North East, MD; paternal grandparents: Kim C. and Margaret Dixon of Elkridge, MD; maternal great grandmother: Polly Blakeley of North East, MD; paternal great grandfather: Harvey A.
