Mrs. Flora Mae (Wilcox) Gilley of Pikesville, MD, where she resided with her loving daughter, Sheila Kilby, went home to be with the Lord on 20 May 2017. She was born in Todd, NC, to Ollie and Martin Wilcox on 13 May 1929. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Earnest, in1990; sister, Ora Lee Howell; brother, Stewart Wilcox; son-in-law, Roger Heim; and stepson, Wayne Gilley. Flora worked for Middleton’s Florist using her skills to make beautiful arrangements for many years and was also a homemaker, mother and loving wife. She was an avid collector of bells. She loved to travel and see new places. She also enjoyed her crossword and word search puzzles. She was a member of the Conowingo Baptist Church, Conowingo, MD. Mary Evelyn Ewing, 72 of Elkton, MD, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. A lifelong resident of Elkton, she was born on August 17, 1944, the daughter of the late William Clifton Rhoades and Erma O. (Garten) Decker. Mary retired from Chrysler. She was a member of the Moose Club, Elkton, MD and UAW Local 1183. In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, yard sales and couponing. Most of all, Mary loved her family and friends. She was lovingly known as Mom Mom Mary by everyone. Mary Edna Short was born on April 12, 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho to the late Mae Edith and Delbert Dallas Morton. She married Theodore Short in 1975. Theodore “Shorty” Short preceded her in death. Mary departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
Mary was a dedicated and devoted participant of Bayside Community Network, Inc. for 39 years. During her tenure, she worked on various projects and developed many close and endearing friendships. Mary was a hard worker, never missing time from work. She was known for the quality and precision of her work. Mary met every work day with a smile. Marian Elizabeth Scott, age 91, of Port Deposit, MD, entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, May 14, 2017. She was born January 11, 1926 in Spring Creek, PA to Harold and Ruth Matteson. Marian enjoyed life on the farm; she especially enjoyed “haying time” when she got to drive the tractor. Marian’s older sister, Helen, was saved at a Revival meeting and came home that night and told Marian about her need for Jesus. Marian accepted Jesus that night as her Lord and Savior. Suzanne Smith Gordon, 76 of North East, MD, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at home. Born in Rochester, NY, on December 8, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Reid D.C. and Jean Smith. After high school, Suzanne attended Russell-Sage College, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in English degree. Suzanne served the community in many different ways. Co-president of North East Elementary School PTA, she was also a long time substitute teacher in the county elementary schools and worked as a kindergarten teacher at Cecil Dance Center Kindercare. She was a founding director of Cecil Dance Theatre where she was the lead costume designer and maker; president of Art’s Reach; Women’s College Club; co-author of the Cecil County Public Schools Integrated Arts Curriculum; managed the concession stand for North East Little League; and was a House Mom at Ballet Regent, Saratoga Springs, NY. John Bruce Renninger, of North East, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was 87. Born in Mifflin County, PA, on March 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Bruce D. and Mertie (Knepp) Renninger. He was the husband of the late Phyllis M. Renninger who passed March 29, 2009. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Renninger was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for York Building Products, working for the company for 40 years and 3 months. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, North East, MD. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, puzzles and mechanic work in his garage. Deborah Boyd Cain, 70 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, on May 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late T. Davis and Evelyn (Donache) Boyd. Debbie enjoyed spending time with her family, close friends and especially the light of her life, her granddaughter Hannah. Debbie was a long time member of St. Mary Anne’s serving as Senior Warden, Vestry member, President of the ECW and Meal-of-the-Month Coordinator for several years. Debbie was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission and commissioner for the town of North East. She chaired the committee that oversaw the building of the current North East Police Station and the North East Branch of the Cecil County Public Library. Debbie was the Executive Vice President of the Cecil County Board of Realtors for the past 40 years. James Otis Monger, “Jim”, age 86 of Port Deposit, MD passed away on May 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 5, 1931 in Elkton, MD to the late Otis Richard Monger and Ethel (Hanna) Monger. Jim graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1948. He then played for the Boston Braves in 1949 for a short period of time. He worked for Canteen Company from 1950-1951. Jim served in the Army from 1952-1961. In 1953, he served in the Korean War 8th Division. Jim later worked at General Motors from 1956-1959. He also worked with his father, Otis at his Automotive Mechanic Shop in Rising Sun for over 50 years. Jim was employed with Chrysler Auto Manufacturing for 35 years retiring in June of 1994 where he was a member of UAW 1183. Jim was a life-long member of the American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun, MD. In the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s, Jim managed and coached Rising Sun Little League. Jim was a baseball enthusiast with a special interest in watching the Orioles and Yankees. As a grandfather, Jim always attended his grandchildren’s sporting events. Robert C. Efford, 83 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017. Born in Baltimore, MD, on December 30, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry Milton Efford and Lillian Mae (Reneker) Efford Twitchell. He was the husband of Joan Elizabeth Efford who passed August 17, 1994. Bob was a retired Maryland State Trooper. After his retirement, he went back to his love of the water and became a boat captain. He then went into sales at Jackson Marina, transferring to McDaniel’s Yacht Basin where he worked for over 20 years. While at McDaniel’s Bob saw a need and started his own business, Dockside Marine Insurance. He was a member of the North East River Yacht Club, North East Club where he served as Treasurer for many years, North East Chamber of Commerce, Upper Bay Marine Trade Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. Bob was also a member of the Masons at Harmony Lodge #53, Port Deposit, MD and the Boumi Shriners, Baltimore, MD, where he was a Jester of the Royal Order of Jesters, Crescent Court #64. Patricia Ann Strine, 69 of Elkton, MD, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.
Born in York, PA, on August 2, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Roddy (aka Paul) and Charlotte M. (Knaub) Glusco. Mrs. Strine retired from ACM Pest Control, Elkton, MD where she worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, York, PA. Sewing was her passion and she was a member of The Sew & Sew Quilters Guild, Aberdeen MD, “The Camelettes”, The Flying Geese of Fallston, MD and The Splendid Sampler Group. |
