Paige Fuller Reed of North East died Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care in Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was 79. Born in North Royalton, Ohio, on March 19, 1937, he was the son of John Arthur Reed and Vivian Elenor Marriott Reed. Mr. Reed was a member of the Moore Society which traces the Reed family members back to the Mayflower. He was also associated with American Pyrotechnic Association (APA), Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI), and the National Fireworks Association (NFA). He retired from the U.S. Army with 22 years of service, was stationed throughout the U.S., Germany, and saw action in Vietnam. Upon retiring from the military, he went to work for RCA in Camden, N.J. Marvin R. Janney Sr. of Rising Sun died at home on Monday, April 18, 2016. He was 86. Mr. Janney was born in Virginia, a son of the late Brown and Rosie Harrington Janney. He worked as a self-employed logger. Mr. Janney was a member of Porters Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Carolyn Simpkins of Perryville died Sunday, April 17, 2016 in the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital of Havre de Grace,. She was 77.
Born March 8, 1939 in Bridgeton, N.J, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle Watson Kirkbride. Mrs. Simpkins was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Community Fire Company of Perryville. Donald Edward Manges, Jr. of North East died Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was 75.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., on February 27, 1941, he was the son of Donald Edward Manges, Sr. and Geraldine (Matthews) Manges. Mr. Manges was a member of the Keuka Lake Association in Hammondsport, N.Y. He served on the Board of Directors of Chesapeake Isle Civic Association and was named Chesapeake Isle Man of the year. Hammersley “Pup” Taylor, 89, of Rising Sun, MD, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at home. Born in North East, MD on April 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Hammersley Taylor, Sr. and Betty Culley. He was preceded in death by his brother Delbert Taylor. Hammersley served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was an electrician and served as the President of the Board of Electrical Contractors. He was a member and past president of OUAM Lodge. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Hammersley was a member, Sunday school teacher and Trustee of Shelemiah Methodist Church. His interests were hunting, fishing, crabbing and watching birds. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Coradine D. “Candy” Myers of Elkton, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 67.
Born in Camden, N.J., on September 27, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Elizabeth (Sacraponte) Rossi. Mrs. Myers retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground as the Deputy Director of the North East CPAC. Helen Joyce Slagle of North East died at home Sunday, April 10, 2016. She was 72. Born in Elkton, on May 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Kennard Blake, Jr. and Sara Jane (Alexander) Blake. Mrs. Slagle enjoyed knitting, visiting casinos, and was a member of North East United Methodist Church. She was a contract negotiator, employed by APG before her retirement. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Slagle; niece, Jennifer Blake of Oxford, Pa.; great-nephew, Blake Mitchem; great-niece, Savannah Mitchem; stepdaughter, Moreen Altemus of Newark, Del.; grandson, Cooper Altemus; and brother, Kenny Blake (Donna) Quarryville, Pa. Charles Frederick “Fred” Yackanech of Wilmington, Del. died at home Sunday, April 10, 2016. He was 64. Born in Clarksburg, W.Va., on June 20, 1951, he was the son of Mike and Mary Virginia (Criss) Yackanech. Mr. Yackanech was a research technician at Hercules. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and playing pool. He is survived by his wife, Lynn T. Buckley; daughter, Lindy Tad Yackanech of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sister: Patricia A. Hughes of Tallahassee, Fla.; and two brothers, Michael E. Yackanech of North East, and Richard A. Yackanech of Elkton; and a special friend, Matthew Beckman of Wilmington, Del. Paul L. Hickman Jr. “Butch”, 65 of Port Deposit, MD, passed away on April 10, 2016. He was the son of the late Paul Hickman, Sr., and Elizabeth Brooks, wife of Frank Brooks. He was employed by W.M. Cohen and Sons where he worked for 30 years. In addition to Mary Jo, he is survived by daughters; Beth, Chrissie, and Brandy, stepchildren; Judy, Amanda and Mikey, sisters; Kathy Crouch, Cindy Sheets, brothers; John Hickman, Douglas Hickman, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Santiago was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Deputy Director EMARSS, Aberdeen Proving Ground, of Aberdeen, MD. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Rodriguez Santiago of North East, MD; son, Adam Santiago of North East, MD; daughters, Melinda Rivera and Maria McAlpine, both of North East, MD, and Antoinette Martino of Centerville, VA; eight grandchildren, Isabel Rivera, Jasmine Rivera, Nadia Santiago, Nicholas Santiago, Aiden Santiago, Mateo McAlpine, Alice Martino, and Micah McAlpine. |
