Ann Snyder Johnson, formerly of North East, died Saturday March 7, 2015. She was 80. Born May 18, 1934 in Delaware County Pa., she was the third of six children of the late Kenneth and Lois Snyder. Mrs. Johnson graduated from West Chester State Teachers College where she met D. Victor Johnson. After their marriage they moved to Eagleville with their two children Amy and Don, followed by a move to Cecil County. They fell in love with foxhunting and both taught and retired from the New Castle, Delaware School District. Mrs. Johnson was a creative, loving, conscientious teacher. Her hostess skills were extraordinarily carried out at their home “Charm House” where social events were catered largely by her, happily, beautifully. She loved participating in Don’s swim meets and Amy’s musical events. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed the work of local artists. She and Vic moved to their beautiful farm on Warburton Road and continued teaching, riding, entertaining, keeping horses, and glorying in their granddaughters.
The granddaughters were Ann’s joy, the center of her life. Her driving force saw Don through multiple surgeries as he looked for freedom from seizures. Her optimism faltered with the death of Vic and the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s, but was renewed weekly by Don’s visits to her place of care. She is survived by her children, Donald Victor Johnson of Elkton, and Amy Johnson Carter Peters of Denver, Col.; her granddaughters Sarah Beth, Melissa Ann, and Audrey Carter of Denver; her sisters, Gerry Young of West Chester, Pa., Emily Martin of Woodbridge, Va., and Lois Williams of Elkton; her brothers, Kenny Snyder of New Holland, Pa., and Stephan Snyder of Downingtown, Pa. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 28, in Moore’s Chapel United Methodist Church at 392 Blake Rd., Elkton, with a lunch to follow. An “Ann Johnson Memorial Fund” has been set up for the purpose of “assisting those in need”. Friends desiring to make memorial contributions may make them payable to “Ann Johnson Memorial Fund” sent in care of Moore’s Chapel United Methodist Church 392 Blake Rd Elkton, MD 21921.
