Alice Prange Goshkey of Rising Sun died Monday, December 23, 2013. She was 80. Born in West Grove, Pa., she grew up in Cochranville, Pa., daughter of the late Alonza and Nellie Prange. She was a graduate of Oxford Area High School. She was employed by the Family Dollar store in Rising Sun for the last 14 years. Mrs. Goshkey had worked at a toy factory in Atglen, Pa., a sewing factory in Oxford, Pa., Hackneys restaurant in Atlantic City, and Best catalog store in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mrs. Goshkey attended Janes United Methodist Church in Rising Sun and enjoyed Monday night Bible study in the community room at Fairview Apartments.
She had her own, personal greeting card ministry. She always remembered family and friends on birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. If you had the slightest case of the sniffles, you would receive a "Get Well" card in the mail and a "Thank You" card was sure to be in your mailbox for each and every gift you gave her. Most precious were the "Thinking of You" cards she often sent just because God laid it on her heart to reach out to someone needing a bit of cheering. She is survived by two sisters, Betty Briley of West Grove, Pa., and Julia Powers of Rising Sun. She is also survived by a niece, Debra Ray of Cochranville, Pa. and their children, Rebecca and Daniel. She was the wife of the late Ivan Goshkey A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the community room at Fairview Apartments, 100 McNamee Lane, Rising Sun, MD.
